Do you know what the mold processing process is?

Hits:12

In the huge system of modern industrial production, mold processing is like a master of art behind the scenes. Although it is not often eye-catching, it quietly shapes all aspects of our lives. From electronic product shells, automotive parts for daily use, to various plastic products and metal components, mold processing is everywhere. So, do you know the process of mold processing? Let us enter the precise world of mold processing together.

1. Design stage

This is the first step in mold processing and a crucial step. Designers use computer-aided design (CAD) software to perform three-dimensional modeling of molds according to product requirements. During the design process, factors such as the structure of the mold, the selection of parting surfaces, the processing technology of parts, and the service life of the mold need to be considered. Through precise design, it can ensure that the mold can run smoothly during subsequent processing and use, and produce products that meet quality standards.
2. Raw material preparation

Select the appropriate raw materials according to the requirements of mold design. Commonly used mold materials include mold steel, aluminum alloy, copper alloy, etc. The quality of raw materials directly affects the performance and service life of the mold, so strict inspections must be made during procurement to ensure that the composition and performance of the material meet the standards. At the same time, raw materials must be inspected and pretreated, such as annealing, tempering, etc., to improve the processing properties and internal structure of the material.
3. Rough processing

Use various mechanical processing equipment, such as lathes, milling machines, planers, etc. to perform preliminary processing of raw materials, remove most of the margin, and bring the parts closer to the final shape and size. The purpose of rough processing is to improve processing efficiency and leave appropriate processing allowance for subsequent finishing. During rough machining, pay attention to choosing appropriate tools and cutting parameters to ensure processing quality and efficiency.
4. Finishing

After the rough processing is completed, the finishing stage will enter. Finishing mainly uses precision processing methods such as grinding, electric spark processing, and wire cutting processing to accurately process key parts of mold parts to achieve the dimensional accuracy, shape accuracy and surface finish required by design. Finishing is a key link in ensuring the quality of the mold. Operators need to have superb technical level and rich experience to strictly control various parameters during the processing process.
V. Surface treatment

In order to improve the wear resistance, corrosion resistance and mold release properties of the mold, the mold surface is usually required. Common surface treatment methods include nitriding, hard chromium plating, coating, etc. Nitriding treatment can form a hard nitriding layer on the surface of the mold to improve the hardness and wear resistance of the mold; hard chromium plating can increase the finish of the mold surface, reduce the friction coefficient, and improve the corrosion resistance of the mold; coating treatment can apply various functional coatings on the surface of the mold according to different needs, such as anti-stick coatings, lubricating coatings, etc. to further improve the performance of the mold.
